The Inca Kola Effect
By GKE

EXT.PERU CHURCH.DAY

A REPORTER is interviewing a SCIENTIST. Reporter is shown
outside a church while SCIENTIST is shown at another random
Peruvian location. Induction coils are around the SCIENTIST.

REPORTER
We’re here live from Lima, Peru
talking with Peruvian Scientist
Gregorio Lermo. Care to tell us
about this new invention Gregorio?

SCIENTIST
Yes I’ve developed a time machine
that uses solar flares and these
induction coil to transport anyone
back in time. I’m just about to set
the time coordinates.

REPORTER
So what time period are you headed
for?

SCIENTIST
Jurassic maybe Cretaceous to see
some dinosaurs in action. Or...

SCIENTIST lights up. Starts rapidly typing away at a control
panel.

SCIENTIST
(Excited)
I can do it! I can go back and
prevent Coca a cola from buying out
Inca Kola!

REPORTER
Isn’t that unethical? I’ll report
you!

SCIENTIST
If this works it won’t matter we
will never have had this
conversation.

SCIENTIST begins rapidly typing on control panel.

SCIENTIST
10 seconds to solar flare
alignment. 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

SCIENTIST instantly vanishes.

REPORTER
We’re here live from Lima, Peru.

"It’s really a green screen. Well blue screen if you want to
be technical about it." appears on the screen. The reporter
sees this and bats at it and then it disappears.

REPORTER
With Gregorio Lermo CEO and
majority shareholder of Inca Kola
Corporation. How does it feel to be
at the top, Gregorio?

SCIENTIST
It’s great. A little luck can go a
long way. It was a good time to
invest and I did.

REPORTER
On another note many death threats
have been lodged against you,
especially from Coke a Cola.

SCIENTIST
They can threaten all they want.
They don’t scare me! I will take
Inca Kola to the rest of the
Americas and beyond.

EXT.WHITE HOUSE.DAY

6 months later shows on the screen.

REPORTER
We’re here outside the White House
where a historical deal is being
brockered. The President is
offering Peru nuclear weapons in
exchange for Inca Kola shipments.
Meanwhile the FDA is doing a study
on the addictiveness of Inca Kola.
6 months ago no one would have
thought it was possible but Peru
has become the world’s most
powerful nation. Inca Kola has
taken them from a third world
nation to the worlds richest

Awesome pic

So what do you get when you speak a dream and can actually do it? well since a pictures worth a thousand words here you go:

BSG has Mormon elements and a better explanation of Starbuck

(please note that this blog post is about the new re-imagined series and not the classics)
I was in a meeting for my Salt Lake Mission trip when an animation of the core beliefs of mormonism was playing. One main planet was referred to Kolob a planet of the gods. I misheard this and thought they said Kobol the planet in Battle Star Galactica where the 12 tribes rebelled against the gods in some unmentioned way. I asked one of the leaders of the trip if there was a corelation and if BSG was mormon or had mormon elements and he said no. So if you are that person and reading this you are absolutely wrong I knew there had to be something there even if the guy wouldn't admit it or didn't see it so I did some research myself! First Kobol is an anagram of the Mormon "Kolob".

Secondly under the wikipedia article for kolob it explicitly states in the first paragraph that kolob serves as the inspiration for kobol. Another thing to add credence to my theory is that the original creator of BSG Glen A. Larson was Mormon so he might be more likely to use some of those ideas in the series which he did. Under this idea that helps to explain the series a little more. The religion of Baltar seems to take a lot from mormonism. In one memorable episode he states verbatim , "How can god love anything that isn't perfect? ... We are god" which parallels the idea in mormonism that you can become a god if your good enough in the mormon religion and explains the crazy doctrine of Baltar.

This brings me to my third point Starbuck. When it was revealed that Starbuck was an angel of god I could hear the groans from my atheistic sister and brother-in-law. I however was exited because it had religious connotation and Starbuck wasn't a cylon. I was pretty sure that idea of coming back as an angel wasn't Christian but it was still religious. Whenever i hear someone say "oh I'll die and become an angel" I'm reminded of a play my local church did where the protagonist of the play wasn't saved and leading a bunch of children who were frightened by a night in the woods. Trying to comfort the kids he says if they died they just float up to heaven and become angels and one of the angels in the background of the play says "Oh angel feathers". Anyways back to Starbuck. Mormonism support the idea of a person coming back as a an angel. According to Mormonism Moroni was a prophet warrior who was the last to write in the gold plates Joseph Smith supposedly translated to create the book of mormon. He was "resurrected, became an angel, and was tasked with guarding the golden plates, and with eventually directing Joseph Smith to their location in the 1820s. " This could explain Starbuck who was resurrected to help the humans and cylons find Earth or their version of it. She was the harbinger of death because the mating of humans and cylons would bring the end to those races and create a new one of human-cylon hybrids. So anyways this post is just trying to show some of the possible mormon elements of BSG. This is by no means saying we as Christians shouldn't watch it(though if you do start to watch it be aware it does have a lot of sex) or shows with different religions. BSG and most sci-fi shows are a hodgepodge of religions. I just think its important to be aware of the influencing religions in a show.

New Direction

I have been recently studying the Mormon religion in preparation for a mission trip to Salt Lake. I find the stuff I'm learning interesting and fascinating and I feel God tugging at me that I might be more suited to studying different religions. One of my favorite tv characters is Daniel Jackson from Stargate. He knew every religion incredibly well and I have great respect for this character. Knowing these different religions helped him interact with the various cultures and religions throughout the show including Egyptian and Norse cultures. Maybe a greater understanding of other religions would help Christians interact with the world. I one day hope to have the knowledge Jackson seems to have. Along this line expect to see some more spiritual posts related to my studies and how they compare to Christianity. However even with this tugging I'm still a geek and want to continue my development ideas even if I'm only the administrator and not actually making the programs and software myself so expect to see development updates here too on some of these programs and software that will revolutionize how Christians use computers. From now on this blog should be a good mix of the geeky and the spiritual which might actually help the blog adhere more to its name. Anyways expect to see changes!

random conversation and superbowl

I had the most random conversation with the absolute worst person to have it with. Yeah it was interesting and a long story. Yeah can't wait for the game tommorow but I want to get out of a party that I'm suppose to go to. I know its probably going to be crazy in a bad way if I go which is really making me want to do the exact opposite. sigh I don't know. Maybe I'll be able to come up with some excuse to not be there. I do have tech and everyone who would be there would find that belivable. who knows. Also hopefully I can get some cash for a pool tommorow. Maybe thats how I'm suppose to get my money for San Fran. Well this weekend is  going to be interesting.
